As we celebrate Father’s Day today, one thing that former Wallabies winger and Fiji-born rugby player Henry Speight longs for is for his son to know him as a rugby player while he still is.
Now playing for the Western District Bulldogs in the Store Local Hospital Cup competition in Australia, the 36-year-old says he has played on for his 5-year-old son Josefa.
Speight says this is the first time for him to be home with his son and to celebrate his birthday because of rugby.
He says this is one of the coolest memories for him and his son making it the most memorable season of his career.
Speight has played 19 Tests for the Wallabies, more than 120 Super Rugby matches for the ACT Brumbies and Queensland Reds and took his skills to New Zealand, Northern Ireland and France.
Meanwhile, Speight and 2023 World Cup winger Suliasi Vunivalu will start on the wings in the grand final today for the Bulldogs against the Brothers Rugby Club.
