A Tailevu man accused of cultivating illicit drugs has told the court that he only planted, one plant of marijuana for personal use at his dalo plantation.
He disputed charges filed by Police which say he planted 87 plants of marijuana weighing about 34 kilograms in his farm near Naqia village in Wainibuka in 2017.
Nemani Ravia told the court that he is a Muslim and was fasting at the time he was interviewed by Police.
The accused said because he was fasting he told Police the truth about the one marijuana plant at his plantation.
While being examined by the defence lawyer, Ravia said he cooperated with Police and told them about another marijuana plantation near the village.
Ravia said that marijuana plantation belonged to another person and he should have only been charged for the one plant of marijuana at his farm.
The closing submissions in this trial will be made this afternoon.
