Olympic gold medalist Kalione Nasoko was determined to not let his injury keep him from wearing the Fiji 7s jersey again.
Nasoko says it was tough for him hearing that he had an ACL injury and had to leave for Sydney for surgery and rest for six weeks.
He adds he had to re-learn how to walk because he was using crutches to move about during the recovery phase.
He says seeing the players play in the 2019/2020 HSBC 7s series was very hard for him but he was still determined to get back on the field for Fiji.
Nasoko who is from Yasawa says after his surgery in Sydney, he had six weeks to recover and he was so lucky that his wife stood by him throughout the recovery stage.
He says he is thankful to Naca Cawanibuka and the team management for always giving him the motivation which helped him recover and wear the white jumper once again.
The 30-year-old star was out of rugby since hurting his anterior cruciate ligament at the Canada 7s in March 2019 and had not participated in any series since then.
He returned to playing rugby for the Yasawa Rugby team during the 2020 Skipper Cup competition and also played in other local 7s tournaments.
His return to international 7s duties was at the Oceania 7s this year, where he helped the Fiji Men’s 7s team win that competition.
Nasoko is currently in 14-day quarantine and is looking forward to returning home to his family.
