The prosecution and defence lawyers in a serious aggravated robbery case have been asked by High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo to assist the court by making submissions on whether the court can order alleged criminals facing serious charges to be vaccinated.

Only one of the three accused persons in the case was present in court today.

It was heard in court that the other accused persons were not vaccinated and it was not safe for them to be present in court.

Justice Temo stated in court that he does not want anyone to use their vaccination status to sabotage the trial process.

He said he would prefer the cooperation model.

Justice Temo stressed that he is aware of the rights of both parties.

He further said that he does not want to use the sledgehammer approach.

Justice Temo added that he understands that the Fiji Corrections Office does not want the virus to spread to unvaccinated prisoners.

He said the wheels of justice must turn.
