19-year-old Irene Mar says she did not expect to qualify for the Paris Olympics as she was the only para-athlete in Taekwondo.
Mar secured her spot to the Olympics from the Qualifiers in the Solomon Islands.
She says the family support has been there all throughout her journey as her father was also in Taekwando, and that is how she got into the sport at a young age.
The Olympian says she is looking forward to meeting other para-athletes at the Olympics as well as gaining more experience.
She says her classmates were shocked when they found out she had qualified because they did not know she was a para-athlete.
The 19-year-old says while they do not have any special diet restrictions, they just have to stay within their weight limit.
She will be competing in the -57kg category.
The Taekwando competition at the Paris Olympics are scheduled for August 7-13.
