The President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu today mentioned that she cannot wait for the day that the India Men’s 7s rugby team will take on the Fiji Men’s 7s side in any international match in the near future.
While delivering her speech in Parliament, Murmu says in the field of sports, while India may have been recently crowned the T20 World Championship in cricket, they have a lot to learn from Fiji in rugby.
She says they are happy that one of Fiji’s legendary players, Waisale Serevi, is India's new national rugby coach and she looks forward to the day when the two teams will play each other.
Murmu also congratulated the Fiji men's rugby 7s team for winning silver at the Paris Olympics men’s rugby 7s competition.
Meanwhile, Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru says a National Celebration will be organized for all of Team Fiji when the rest of Team Fiji, who are currently in Paris, return home.
Saukuru says this is where the promised money for medal winners will be distributed.
