A barnstorming performance from Ngani Laumape has lifted the Hurricanes a 29-27 victory over the Blues in their Super Rugby Aotearoa match last night.
Laumape terrorised the Blues defence with several powerful, tackle-busting runs that kept his side on the front foot for long periods of an epic contest.
The win, sealed by a Jordie Barret sideline conversion with three minutes to play, has ignited the Hurricanes' Super Rugby hopes, with the almighty Crusaders awaiting next week.
Laumape gave Blues defenders a sign of what was to come in the fourth minute, beating Beauden Barrett for pace, before rolling over Otere Black for the games first try.
What followed was a pulsating match, that saw several lead changes and swings in momentum.
On his return to Wellington's Sky Stadium, Beauden Barrett silenced the boo-boys, slicing through weak Hurricanes midfield defence to run 30 metres and score under the posts to give his new side the lead.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs and the Highlanders play at 3.35 this afternoon.
