About 250 people enjoyed an entertaining night of performances by the ICCR devotional group from India, the Tavua Radhe Radhe Ramayan Mandali and SSD Lavuci Ramayan Bhajan Faag Mandali from Ba during the Ram Lalla Utsav at the Wailailai Kuti Temple in Ba last night.
The event and various others throughout the country are being organised this week to commemorate the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, India, the birthplace of Lord Ram.
The temple is expected to open on Monday.
While officiating the Utsav, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad highlighted that the Fiji-Indian community still maintains deep cultural and religious roots, particularly the Girmityas, who arrived from India in 1879.
Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji President Dhirendra Nand says this is a significant event for all Hindus throughout the world.
He is urging Hindus to light five diyas on Monday to commemorate the opening of the temple.
Nand is also encouraging all Hindu followers to decorate their homes, places of worship and temples and to come together and observe this very important day.
