Hundreds of people gathered at the Sanatan Shiv Mandir in Samabula last night to celebrate the Maha Shiv Ratri.
Devotees including children were seen standing in a long line to offer milk and fruits to Lord Shiva.
Maha Shiv Ratri marks the wedding day of Lord Shiva and Parvati, and it is also a night of overcoming darkness and ignorance.
Most of people fasted whole day to perform the Havan at night and mark an end to the three day prayer ceremony.
Pandit Vijendra Sharma has reminded all those gathered that it is not just about fasting and bringing offerings but people should also practice the teachings of Lord Shiva in their daily lives.
Sharma says no matter how much people pray, it will all be in vain if they commit a simplest of sin such as lying.
Sharma adds they understand that a number of people in the country are facing a lot of difficulties due to COVID-19 and the recent cyclones.
He says they are praying that these people get the strength to get back on their feet and that Lord Shiva takes all their struggles away.
