Minister for Local Government and Housing, Premila Kumar says they are working on trying to get Housing Authority out of their comfort zone of just giving out subdivided land and for them to think of providing housing solutions.
Kumar highlighted this during her visit to the Cuvu informal settlement and the Housing Authority of Fiji Natadola Project Site.
She says with the newly appointed Board members, Housing Authority will now have to think of how they can build houses and sell out a complete package, where the land is sold with the house.
Kumar says they must come up with a mixture of products which will be lucrative to the consumers.
She says one of the setbacks they are facing with the Housing Authority is the way they feel about their role which is to develop land, divide it into lots and just simply put up the lots in the market.
Kumar says there needs to be more creative financial models too and the Authority needs to work with the private sector.
She says people want to own homes but unfortunately the Housing Authority is not putting more products in the market.
