Holy Ramayan held our communities together and its stories kept our forefathers united and gave them strength during a difficult Indenture period.
This was highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran while speaking at the Ayodhya Temple in Nadi where a troupe from Ayodhyapuri in India performed.
Kiran says as waves of prayer and joy flow around the world, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya, it is time to reflect and invite Ram in our hearts, in our actions, in our lives and beyond just worshiping his name.
She says our diaspora around the world has mandalis and the teaching of Ramayan continues.
The Minister says this rejuvenation around the world has come at a crucial time and as we face many challenges, there are wars in the world, our communities and families.
She says in the olden days, there was only one large mandali in a settlement where each village was bound together and any break up was mediated and unity maintained however, today each of our settlements has multiple divides and multiple small mandalis, and as our population decreases maybe we will be united in strength.
She says at such a young age, Lord Rama and his brothers were sent to Gurukul to prepare for the world, while in our children's lives we put mobile phones in their hands from where they learn their life skills.
Kiran further says we send our out to get educated so that they become successful in life, but an aspect of childhood spiritual education is key where we could focus more, to prepare our children to know what's wrong and right, honest living, the right attitude and correct understanding to the right thing because, these values are key to shaping their destiny, the way they live and conduct themselves.
Kiran says there are many beautiful lessons for each of us and while we celebrate we must reflect and imbibe these valuable lessons in our lives.
