Holi the festival of colours, is not just a celebration of vibrant hues but also a powerful reminder of diversity.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran highlighted this during the Annual Faag Sammelan organized by the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji's Rewa Branch at the Pandit Shreedhar Maharaj College in Wainibokasi.
Kiran stressed the importance of putting spiritual values into action, stating that religion is not only about scriptures but also about living out our duties.
She urged everyone to embrace these values, as this can greatly improve our society.
While reminiscing holi celebrations, Kiran remembered how mandalis would visit homes within the community, spreading love and unity.
The Minister for Women highlighted the struggles of our ancestors and urged people to honour their sacrifices, especially on occasions like Holi.
She emphasized that events like the Sammelan give people a sense of purpose to come together and should be used as an opportunity to foster peace across the nation.
The Minister also encouraged the Sanatan Dharm community to address social issues and include the elderly in their programs.
Kiran stressed that loneliness has been a significant factor contributing to the rise in suicide rates among the elderly in the past three years.
She stressed the importance of making elderly individuals feel included and valued.
She has wished everyone a joyful and blessed Holi.
Holi is one of the most cherished Hindu festivals, it celebrates the eternal love of Radha and Lord Krishna, and also signifies the triumph of good over evil commemorating Lord Vishnu's victory as Narasimha over the demon king Hiranyakashyap.
Nine schools participated in the Faag Sammelan, including DAV College, Nakasi High School, Rishikul Sanatan College, Baulevu High School, Bhawani Dayal Arya College and Vaisama Sanatan Primary.
Holi will be celebrated on the 14th of March.
