The last day of celebrations of major Hindu festival, Ram Naumi will start later this morning and end just after midday which will mark the birth of Lord Rama.
Ram Naumi is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu Calender and today, devotees repeat the name of Rama with every breath and vow to lead a righteous life.
As Hindus celebrate the festival, questions are being raised on how religious organisations can use their preaching to counter major issues like rape, teenage pregnancies, suicide and violence against women and children which continue to rise.
The President of the Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji Sarju Prasad says when it comes to respecting our women, people should learn from Lord Rama who had more respect and love for his step-mother than his own mother.
He has also called on all Sanatan preachers to ensure that their character is not tarnished as they should be the leading examples in their community.
