83 Hilton Special School students in Suva will now enjoy a safe ride to and from the school after receiving a 32-seater minibus.
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr Josefa Koroivueta handed over the bus to the school which was donated by the Janty Kanvan Limited yesterday.
While receiving the new bus, Hilton Organization Chief Executive Officer Sureni Perera said that now 20 more children can receive transport and the children will be in school on time.
Perera said now that they have a new bus, the old 13-seater minivan they have will be used for community outreach programs.
Perera said that the head teachers had been requesting the management that they need to look into their transport issues since there are many more children who require this valuable service.
Janty Kanvan Limited representative and Operations manager Jigar Khatri said that this will contribute towards the development of students at the Hilton School.
Meanwhile, Dr Korovueta said that it is a relief to families too who face financial difficulties in getting their children to the school.
He said the new bus also displays information on the National Child Helpline toll free number “1325”.
