The High Commission of India celebrated its 75th Republic Day at the India House in Suva today, which included a large number of the Indian diaspora and friends.
The celebration was addressed by the High Commissioner P.S. Karthigeyan, who unfurled the tricolor and read out the address of India's President to Fiji.
Karthigeyan says India has faced countless challenges and adversities during its early years of independence with a very high level of poverty and illiteracy yet the spirit of India was undeterred.
He says the constitution has been continuously guiding the republic and since then India has been transformed from a largely poor and illiterate nation into a confident nation marching into many world stages where it has become the fifth largest economy in the world.
The Commissioner also conveyed his appreciation to the soldiers who guard India’s borders and are ready to make any sacrifices for their country.
