The Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus committee has opened and distributed the charity funds from last year’s Hibiscus Festival to all the charity organisations that were nominated to receive these funds.
Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala helped distribute the funds.
Five sponsors distributed $136,979.00 to about 17 different organisations including Dilkusha Home, St Christopher’s Home and Hilton Special School.
Miss FNU Raijeli Vueti who was crowned Miss Charity in last year’s Hibiscus Festival had collected a total of $41,216.68.
FNU had donated $20,000 which was the largest donated sum of charity to the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji.
The Suva Retailers Association had also donated a cheque of $30,000 to the Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Fund to help those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.
The Hibiscus Festival will begin at the end of August this year.
