A heavy rain warning is now in force for Viti Levu, the eastern and interior parts of Vanua Levu which includes areas from Labasa, Savusavu, Seaqaqa and Taveuni, and Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca and Lomaiviti.
The Weather Office says a trough of low pressure is approaching Fiji from the West and is expected to affect the country through the weekend until Monday.
Rain is expected to become frequent and heavy in the Western parts of Fiji from later today and gradually spread to the rest of the country.
Heavy rain can cause flash flooding in low lying areas.
