The Ministry of Health is currently facing difficulties in ensuring doctors and nurses from the Ministry are well-taken care of when they are designated to work at a community health centre.
While visiting the Nawaicoba Health Centre in Nadi, Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says in some communities, people tend to scare doctors and nurses while some terrorize their officials, especially, when it's a female.
He says that his main visit to the Centre is to present a sevusevu (a traditional welcoming ceremony) for their new doctor.
Dr Waqainabete says they hope the community will treat her as one of their daughters and protect her from harm since it's difficult for them to monitor this because they are in Suva.
The Minister says the team from the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services has already stocked up the Centre and this also includes a backup generator.
Dr Waqainabete adds they have increased the number of doctors serving at the Nursing Stations and Health Centers along the Sigatoka to Nadi corridor because of the increase in population in these areas.
