To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the CWM Hospital in Suva, the Health Ministry, CWM staff and other volunteers from different organisations took some time out to clean up the surrounding areas of the hospital.
They are also expected to plant 98 trees around the hospital to complement the two trees planted by the Health Minister, Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and the British High Commissioner last week.
CWM Board of Visitors Chair Dr Esther Williams says this clean-up is different from the other clean-up campaigns they have held this year as it was mainly for the staff of CWM, their families and friends. She says they are thankful that this morning, a group from USP and FNPF turned up to be part of the clean-up.
Dr Williams also acknowledged the support from the Ministry of Forestry, who supplied them with the plants that they will be planting around the hospital.
She says they are looking at conducting clean-up campaigns every quarter in 2024.
CWM Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Luke Nasedra says this is their 3rd clean-up the year and is in line with their centennial celebration.
He says the clean-up is to add a little touch-up to the face of the CWM Hospital.
FNPF Team Leader Member Services, Tevita Varea, says this is part of their work to give back to society, and this clean-up shows their appreciation towards the work the nurses and doctors do.
