Fijian Swimmer Hansel McCaig has been ranked 73rd after finishing 10th in the 100-metres freestyle Heat 6 at the World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
McCaig clocked a time of 52.10 seconds, 1.30 seconds short of his personal best which is 51.40 seconds. McCaig says he was always thrilled with swimming and he kept pushing himself to become better. He says his grandmother has been his pillar of strength as she has been there through all his training and competition. He further says it has been tough to balance his tertiary studies with sufficient and quality training. The 20-year-old adds his target now is to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Kelera Mudunasoko clocked a personal best of 1 minute 15.77 seconds in the women’s 100 metres breast stroke, and finished 7th with a time of 2 minutes 46.09 seconds in the women’s 200 metres breast stroke Heat 1.
