The Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s team is through to the semi finals of the HSBC Hong Kong 7s after edging Spain 31-28 in extra time from a Iowane Teba penalty kick.
Fiji will play France at 6.23 tonight in the second cup semi final.
They led most of the game with converted tries to Filipe Sauturaga, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, George Bose, and Teba.
Fiji led 14-7 at half time.
They let Spain back into the match in the second half where they were able to tie them at 28-28, which meant they had to go into extra time.
Spain committed a mistake after they kicked off being penalised for obstruction which is when Fiji opted for a penalty kick from 40 metres out which Teba converted easily to make it FIJ 31-28 ESP.
Fiji had earlier defeated the USA 26-14 before edging Ireland 21-19, before losing 35-7 to Argentina.
In other quarter finals, Australia thumped Great Britain 34-5, Argentina beat Ireland 22-14, and France defeated New Zealand 21-14.
The cup semi finals will start at 7pm tomorrow and the cup final will kick off at 11.46pm tomorrow.
