HFC Bank has provided two large boxes of Eco friendly bags to the 400 permanent vendors at the Suva Municipal Market.

These Eco friendly bags will be given to customers free of charge who  will purchase vegetables, root-crops and other produce at the market.

At the moment market vendors are charging 50c for an Eco friendly bag.

HFC Bank’s Business Development Officer, Natautava Rokotuibau says the Bank is committed to addressing issues affecting the environment at the forefront of the city and for the nation as a whole.

He says this will certainly help in creating awareness and promoting alternative use of single use plastic bags.

The Bank is planning on the continuation of the disbursement of the Eco friendly bags in the future.

Suva City Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Azam Khan says the Eco friendly bags will be given to the permanent vendors first before it is given to the casual vendors.
