Suva Grammar School's Head Girl Hannah Mudreilagi spoke with passion and confidence during the Symposium on Violence Against Women and Children, saying that informed minds are the catalyst of change for women and girls who suffer from violence.
Mudreilagi was part of a panel of students who spoke on issues about violence against women and girls during International Women’s Day celebrations.
While speaking at Saint Joseph’s Secondary School, Mudreilagi says that education empowers women and girls to create a pathway of stability and empowerment for them to speak up on issues they face.
She says that great innovations and initiatives come from collaborative thoughts and being part of this panel has boosted her morale in creating more awareness for women.
Mudreilagi adds that women who suffer in silence should share their problems with trusted family members or friends to help them get through these problems.
Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports Meli Nacuva says engaging in education provides a framework for a safer and equitable society for all.
Nacula reminded the girls that being victims of violence and attacks is not part of life, and they should make a stand against violence.
He says that education plays a pivotal role and that girls should feel empowered to make the right choices to address harmful practices.
