Minister for Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says the government is transitioning well from recovery to rehabilitation phase in the Northern Division.

Seruiratu says they need to maintain the tempo of their work in order to have a quick return to normalcy.

He says access by road is almost 100%, electricity restoration continues, and there are still repair works to be done in terms of water infrastructure, but water carting is helping deal with the water problem faced by people in affected areas.

Seruiratu says they are also repairing boreholes for those that have underground water sources.

He says communication is no longer a problem, but the weather is a challenge as they are experiencing heavy rain that has brought about flooding and a few landslides.

Seruiratu says their major focus now is education as school is to start on the 18th of this month.

He says stakeholders carrying out rehabilitation work are pushing on, so school starts on the set date.

Meanwhile, Seruiratu says the assessment team from the Eastern Division is back in Suva to submit their report then government will release an official report of the Eastern Division.
