The Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports Maritino Nemani says they will make attempts to approach champion weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana to represent Fiji again.
Nemani says no attempts have been made so far but the government will organise a meeting soon to persuade Cikamatana.
He says the job of the sporting organisations is to ensure they put in place strategies to retain athletes which include the management and administration of athletes and this was not done well.
He says it was Cikamatana’s own decision to leave Fiji and represent Australia but Fiji will continue to make attempts to bring her back.
Nemani says he has no comment on why Joe Vueti was removed from the position of National coach of Weightlifting Fiji.
He says the government let’s all sporting organisations do what they are supposed to do and they respect their independence in making decisions.
Cikamatana won gold in the women’s 90kg at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games while representing Fiji.
Fiji born Australian resident Eileen Cikamatana recently broke 46 weightlifting records including three world records at the Australian National Junior Weightlifting Championships.
