Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar says the government has engaged the services of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise who are in the process of refining the concept master-plan for the greater Suva, Lautoka and Nadi areas.
She says once completed by mid this year, this long-term planning document will provide a blueprint to guide future growth and development until 2075.
Kumar told parliamentarians that the master-plan will identify land use for agriculture, commercial, industrial, residential and tourism-related activities.
When questioned by SODELPA MP, Mosese Bulitavu as to what is the cost associated with the whole exercise where the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise has been hired to try and convert Fiji into something like what they did in Singapore 20 years ago.
Bulitavu also asked Kumar to reveal if there were any consultations done with those that will be affected, especially the residents.
Kumar says she does not control the purse and may answer this at a later stage.
Kumar says this is just the preparatory stage which requires data collection and consultation has started with various government agencies in getting information together before a draft master-plan can be prepared.
She says once a draft master-plan is out, consultations will begin with the communities.
