A teacher of Gospel Primary School has pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm before Magistrate Deepika Prakash.
Sylvia Singh has pleaded guilty to the allegation of slapping a year 3 student at the school on the 19th of July this year.
While submitting the mitigating factors, defence lawyer, Thomson Lee said that Singh had tried to stop the fight between the victim and another boy at school on the day of the incident.
Lee said the teacher had told the victim to stop the fight and in retaliation, the victim pushed Singh.
Singh then slapped the victim after attempts to stop the retaliation.
The defence lawyer also added that attempts made to reconcile the matter had been futile.
He said the accused had tried to present the family a Tabua and a kilogram of waka to reconcile the matter, however the gates were closed to the reconciling party by the boy’s family.
The matter has been adjourned to the 13th of this month where Singh will be sentenced at 2.30pm.
