Good maternity services for pregnant women can prevent disabilities - Dr Kanem

One of the best things that we can do to prevent certain types of disability is to have good maternity services for pregnant women.

This was highlighted by the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund Pacific Dr. Natalia Kanem who says that ante-natal care, the process of child delivery and birth are very important.

Dr Kanem says if the baby is premature or has other types of issues upon birth, having that midwife and that health system that are able to immediately intervene and do the things that are necessary is what the UNFP are advocating for.

She says that even with the best of preparation, people will always be born with different types of abilities and they need to be able to accommodate special needs.
