Prominent Suva lawyer, Richard Naidu says good governance is about having a government that is not afraid to be criticised and which is not afraid to be told it is wrong.
While speaking during the National Federation Party Annual Convention today, Naidu says ordinary citizens like him are looking for decent, honest political leadership.
He says they are tired of this Government, its false promises, its fake likes on Facebook, its boasting, its arrogance, its bullying and threats - and its indifference to people’s suffering.
Naidu also says in a real democracy the Government listens patiently to criticism from the people, even if the people are sometimes wrong, because the Government are the people’s servants.
Naidu adds says the Government does not say to them you are being political.
The Suva lawyer highlighted that good governance is about having a Government that does not pick fights with USP just because it cannot win an argument, then throw out the Vice-Chancellor, and stops paying millions of dollars of money needed to educate Fiji’s young people.
He says good governance costs nothing.
Naidu also says the three MPs of NFP have been repeatedly arrested, one attacked physically, all attacked verbally and one has been attacked on Facebook in the most disgraceful way.
The President of the National Federation Party, Pio Tikoduadua says they do not believe in doing things for political expediency or short term gains but NFP is a party that puts the people first.
He says the NFP is not a party of people who believe that being in Government entitles them to privileges and empowerment for self gain.
Tikoduadua says they are not a party of people who assume unlimited dictatorial powers or think they are the Messiah and look down upon the people of this country.
He says it is almost 40 months after the 2018 general elections and the actions of two men are clearly but painfully visible which has resulted in a divided, demoralized and a fractured nation.
Tikoduadua says it is up to the people of Fiji to ensure the highest standard of electoral credibility is upheld.
