Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar visited the Golden Age Home in Lautoka.

The Golden Age Home in Lautoka needs a major upgrade as the building was constructed in the 1960s.

Home Manager Tara Naresh said they often have water leakages, electrical faults and water pressure problems as the designs were done years ago.

She added the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar has taken the quotations and will work with the stakeholders on this.

Naresh highlighted that talks are currently underway for the Ministry to take over the home.

The home currently receives an annual funding of $324,000 from the Ministry of Health to take care of the senior citizens who are sickly, poor and neglected by their families.

The senior citizens that are 68 years and over are also under the Social Pension Scheme.

Meanwhile, a non-government organisation from USA, Samaj Sewa, has given a donation of $2,000 to the home.

43 senior citizens are living at the Golden Age Home.
