The Global Recycling Day 2025 is set to take place on March 18th, 2025, at Churchill Park, that will focus on addressing the waste management crisis and advocating strategic collaborations to implement sustainable recycling practices.
The Pacific Recycling Foundation and its partners, Tourism Fiji, Lautoka City Council, Pacific Energy, Nestlé Fiji, Fiji National University and R.C. Manubhai Co. Ltd have unveiled the event’s theme and key national campaigns.
PRF says the theme for Global Recycling Day 2025, “Breaking Barriers, A Revolutionary Blueprint for the Waste Management Crisis,” emphasises the critical need for transformative partnerships to tackle the growing waste management challenges in Fiji and the Pacific region.
They say with the objective of fostering long-lasting, sustainable change, the theme calls for bold, innovative approaches to overcoming the barriers that hinder effective recycling systems.
PRF founder Amitesh Deo, emphasised the urgency of addressing the growing waste management crisis.
He says the theme for Global Recycling Day reflects the urgent need for collaboration across all sectors - government, business, development and brand partners, donor agencies, and the public, to break down the barriers that prevent effective waste management and recycling.
He says this is a call to action for creating a sustainable future.
PRF says at the heart of this year’s celebration, two major national campaigns have also been launched.
They include the National Lapel Pin Campaign – “Join the Recycling Movement”.
PRF says this initiative invites individuals to support the recycling movement by wearing a specially designed lapel pin.
They say proceeds from the sale of the pins will help expand PRF’s recycling programs across Fiji, especially in remote and maritime areas that face significant waste management challenges.
The foundation says the other campaign - “Empower the Nation: Recycle, Curb Plastic Waste” - is a nationwide campaign which aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic on Fiji’s environment and natural resources.
They say it calls on the public to embrace recycling as a means of reducing plastic waste and transitioning to more sustainable alternatives.
Deo says PRF is proud to partner with Tourism Fiji, Pacific Energy, Nestlé Fiji, Lautoka City Council, and R.C. Manubhai Co. Ltd.
He says they are incredibly grateful for the continued support of their partners as their involvement is crucial to the success of this movement, and together, they are showing how collaboration can make a profound impact on waste management in Fiji.
PRF says a key highlight of Global Recycling Day will be the launch of PRF’s “I Recycle” program at Churchill Park, marking the venue as the first sports facility in Fiji to implement comprehensive sustainable waste management practices.
Deo says they are excited to launch the 'I Recycle' program at Churchill Park as part of Global Recycling Day 2025 as this sets a new benchmark for how proper waste management can be integrated into sports and public events.
The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to officiate the Global Recycling Day on 18th March, in Lautoka.
