The general court martial regarding the grounding of the Naval Ship, RFNS Kiro on Belcher Reef on 14th July 2016, will start at Queen Elizabeth Barracks later this morning.
The court martial will be presided by Commander (Navy) Netani Sukanaivalu together with four other members.
They will be assisted by Judge Advocate, Lieutenant Colonel Jiten Singh, a former judge of the High Court.
Four members of the RFMF are facing six charges related to the grounding of the ship.
RFMF Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai stated that the trial may take a couple of weeks to complete.
He says the case had taken a while to reach this stage as proper investigations and related military legal procedures had to be put in place before the conduct of the general court martial.
