Villagers of Gau are thankful to the UNDP REACH program team for bringing critical services closer to them.
The team from the REACH program was on Gau Island in Lomaiviti, providing services such as health, legal advice, business and financial advice.
54-year-old Anaseini Ledua says she bought her generator in 2021 that powered most of her electrical items, but last year, she noticed her generator had stopped, while doing her laundry.
She says the past months have been difficult for her as she relies on her generator as a source of power for her deep fridge and washing machine.
The Nawaikama villager says the RFMF engineer, who was part of the REACH team repaired her generator, and her prayers have been answered.
She adds that she now looks forward to sharing the good news with her husband, who is in Suva.
66-year-old Josaia Tawake is thankful that Project Heaven Trust, which was part of the team that visited the island, as he can now hear again from his left ear.
He says, in 2021, he noticed something unusual with his left ear that left him partially deaf.
He adds the villagers of Nawaikama are thankful to Project Heaven Trust, which was part of the REACH team, for bringing services that were not available in the Lomaiviti Group to the front of their doorstep.
Meanwhile, Solomoni Waqa and Meli Balisuva don’t have to travel to Suva to be legally married as a marriage officer was part of the REACH team that visited Gau Island.
The couple who have been together for the past 5-years are thankful that through the REACH program, they were able to get married at Vadravadra Village in the presence of their families and friends.
The REACH team will also visit Baitiki and Nairai in the coming weeks.
