Despite the challenges faced while training on a rugby field in Gau without proper training facilities, the Gau Secondary School Naivilali Under 17 team has stamped their mark in the Punjas Digicel Fiji Secondary Schools Netball finals after securing their first win by defeating Khamil Muslim College 8-7.

Head coach Tarisi Kurisaliki says they are here to showcase their talent and turn heads during the 3-day tournament.

86 schools are taking part in the 3-day tournament which is held at the Fiji Netball Center and the Vodafone Arena.

Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Vice President Josua Qalo says it's encouraging to see maritime islands secondary school teams showing their interest in participating in the netball tournament.

Netball Fiji CEO Vivian Koster says they are thankful to Punjas and Digicel for their ongoing support towards netball in Fiji and help develop netball at the grassroots level.

She says the 3-days tournament is an opportunity to scout for players for the National Academy.

The second day of the tournament begins today.
