Minister for Employment, Parveen Bala says as we continue to fight against COVID-19 and the search for the vaccine continues, thinking about Mahatma Gandhi and the calmness with which he dealt with situations which led to the death of thousands of people more than any pandemic, gives countries ideas on how to deal with the current situation.
Members of the High Commission of India, staff and teachers of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School joined hands to celebrate Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary in Suva yesterday.
Bala says most of us are happy if our parents or families remember our birthday for 15 minutes or 15 hours after it passes.
Bala says the greatest indicator of Mahatma Gandhi as one of the greatest social influences of all times is that we are not only remembering his birth anniversary but under his influence we are also learning about truth, non- violence, love and care for all beings, peace and humanity and a vision for harmony and progress.
Acting High Commissioner of India, Sukanta Sahoo says this year is particularly special as compared to other years as they concluded the calendar of activities marking the 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi.
Sahoo has also thanked the Fijian Government for its success in keeping Fiji safe from COVID-19.
A transcend magazine and documentary on the life of Bapu Ji was also launched during the event to mark the celebration.
