“Investing in plantation forest is a sensible investment as it targets a commodity, trees and wood, which we cannot do without”.
This is the sentiment of Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forests, Commander Viliame Naupoto during the launch of the “Future Forests of Fiji” Public Offer that was held this morning at Holiday Inn Suva.
Future Forests Fiji Ltd was established in 2005 focusing on the sustainable planting and harvesting of Teak and having planted over 140,000 Teak trees on freehold and leased land in the Province of Ra.
Commander Naupoto said that industry policy settings that government has set up like the National Forest Program and the Fiji Forestry Harvesting Code of Practice collectively provides a sound platform for expanding Fiji’s plantation based forest industry.
The Public Offer closes on the October 28th, 2011, whereby Future Forests Fiji is also being planned to be listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange.
