Further evaluation to teachers’ salaries next year

The government will carry out a further evaluation of teachers’ salaries next year.

While speaking at the Nasinu Sangam Primary School Prize Giving Ceremony, Minister for Economy and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they want to ensure that teachers remuneration and the terms and conditions of their work is reflective of what the market should be paying and offering.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they are currently evaluating teachers’ remuneration and want to complete this process in the next six months.

He says the teacher to students ratio in some schools around the country is very high and in some cases teachers are burdened. 

Earlier this year, a new salary rate for Early Childhood Education Teachers was confirmed by the Ministry of Education.
