The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North aims to raise funds for the refurbishment of the women's medical ward at the Labasa Hospital, construction of a waiting area for trucks and tractor drivers at FSC Mill Labasa, projects for Labasa Town and building washroom facilities for at Coqeloa Health Center.
This was highlighted by the Friendly North Festival President Mohammed Rizwan, stating that the Festival in the past years have done numerous projects that has benefited a lot of people and is a reminder that unity is our strength.
While officiating at the festival, Commissioner North Uraia Rainima says the North is richly blessed with its people and the unique natural landscape however, there is still a lot that needs to happen to ensure that growth is achieved and the environment is maintained and sustained.
He says the theme “Rebuilding the North” is timely as together we can create a North that will be second to no one and as developments continue to happen, this will surely guarantee opportunities for people.
Rainima says the changing of the business landscape is a milestone achievement for our people with the much-awaited opening of the Damodar Complex, the blue lane initiative in Savusavu and many more that are embarked to happen on our shores.
The Commissioner further says that the government's commitment to the “Look North Policy” is acknowledged as they move forward to develop and lift standards of livelihoods in the North.
He says while we are working together, we need to be mindful that with change comes challenges and the drive for awareness and community levels is paramount and platform as such allows for the advocating of issues that need attention and address.
The Friendly North Festival started yesterday and will end next Saturday.
