Freedom Alliance has been de-registered as a political party after the request for voluntary de-registration by majority of its office holders was received today.
The request was made in accordance with section 19(7) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act, 2013 [“Act”] which states that the Registrar shall deregister a political party if the majority of the members of the political party apply to the Registrar for voluntary deregistration of the political party.
Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem says noting that majority of the office holders of the party have signed and submitted a written request for voluntary registration in accordance to section 19(7) of the Act, Freedom Alliance is hereby de-registered.
The office holders of the party have been reminded of section 20 of the Act which states that where a political party is deregistered under the Act, no person shall summon a meeting of members or officers of the political party other than for the purposes of winding up the political party or for the purposes of challenging the deregistration of the political party; attend or make a person attend a meeting in the capacity of a member or officer of the political party; make a contribution or loan to funds held or to be held by or for the benefit of the political party or accept a contribution or loan; or give a guarantee in respect of such funds.
