People can take advantage of the free health check-up during the Diwali Mela in Nausori this Saturday which will be conducted by Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji.
Sabha General Secretary, Krishneel Tiwari says the Sabha will assist needy individuals during Diwali by offering services they can’t afford.
Tiwari says the Sabha will organize free meals and ‘prasad’ distribution for the underprivileged, ensuring that those in need can enjoy festive food during Diwali.
He explains that Diwali holds deep spiritual significance, symbolising the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.
Tiwari says the festival has religious and cultural importance and is enthusiastically celebrated across India, Fiji, and other countries with significant Hindu populations.
He says that the festival consists of five days of celebration, which include Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Lakshmi Puja (the main Diwali day), Gobardhan Puja, and Bhai Dhooj.
He emphasizes that people clean and decorate their homes, symbolizing preparation for the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi which is considered an auspicious day to purchase gold, silver, or new utensils, as these actions are believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.
Tiwari adds health and well-being are also a focus on this day, with prayers for protection against diseases and ill health.
The General Secretary explains that the main day of Diwali celebrates the victory of Lord Ram over Ravan and his return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and it is also dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and fertility.
The team will be providing the services at the Bali Complex in Nausori Town (Beside Crest Millers/ located on the top floor of Al Hamd shop).
Diwali will be celebrated on the 1st of November.
