Frank Hilton passed away at the age of 98

Frank Hilton, known as the “Father of Special Education in Fiji” has passed away at the age of 98.

He was fondly referred to as Grand dad or Momo and arrived in Fiji on the 1st of April 1967 on secondment to the Fiji Education Department as Head Teacher of the Suva Crippled Children’s

School now known as the Hilton Special School, under the Commonwealth Cooperation on Education Scheme.

He worked tirelessly to support children with disabilities and ensure they receive appropriate services and education in an effort to promote independence and acceptance in the community.

Hilton was awarded the Order of the British Empire as well as the Fiji Honours – Order of Fiji Companion for the work he did in Fiji and the South Pacific.

He left a legacy in the framework he created to support children with disability in Fiji.

His work is carried on by the Frank Hilton Organisation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Frank Hilton Organization, Sureni Perera says that as long as their doors stay open, they have pledged to work towards supporting children with disabilities as Frank would have wanted them to.
