Rakiraki town is now closed due to flooding of low lying areas.
Police said there is about four feet of water on both sides of town. Occasional heavy rain continues in Rakiraki as all schools in Rakiraki have also been closed and police are monitoring the situation.
Assistant District Officer Rakiraki, Pio Loco confirmed that Naqoro flats, Rakiraki access road, Waimare road and Korotali Valley road is flooded as it continues to rain since last night.
Loco said 8 families from Qelema have been evacuated to the All Nations Church as flood waters entered their homes.
People living in low-lying areas of Rakiraki are urged to move to higher grounds.
Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole of the Fiji group as a Tropical Depression was located 110 kilometres west of Nadi at 10am today and is moving east north east at 5kilometres per hour.
The Nadi weather office say the system may develope into a tropical cyclone by the weekend
Associated active rain bands and strong winds are expected to affect the group today.
Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
