Nakavulevu rescues a father and two sons from their burning house in Nadawa

A fire destroyed three houses and partially destroyed a house in Lumi Road in Nadawa last night.

A courageous Semisi Nakavulevu managed to save the lives of a father and his two sons in a fire incident at Lumi Road in Nadawa last night.

Nakavulevu who lives across the road from where the fire started says they were drinking grog when they suddenly heard an explosion, followed by cries for help from inside the house which was already engulfed in flames.

Nakavulevu says he rushed to the house to try and rescue the family.

He first had to break the gate.

Nakavulevu then smashed the louvre blades and bent the grills to allow space for the 10-year-old boy to escape.

Nakavulevu told Fijivillage the boy kept calling for his baby brother who was still trapped inside the house. He says they managed to break through the front door of the flat which was locked and after entering the house he found a man lying unconscious with his 1-year nine-month old baby. Nakavulevu says he also managed to pull the man and the baby to safety.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says they cannot speculate the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it.

Naisoro says investigations are underway.

17 people are homeless after this tragic fire incident. They are now taking shelter at their relative's home.
