As the HSBC SVNS 2024 heads to Cape Town, Olympic silver medallist and former Great Britain 7s player Tom Mitchell has rated Fiji-born New Zealand 7s halfback Akuila Rokolisoa highly.
Mitchell says 7s is a physical game but the wise among us know that sport is 90 per cent mental.
Mitchell says a brain wired for the most intense sport on the planet needs to be able to make accurate, quick decisions under pressure and needs to see what's unfolding before it has happened and Rokolisoa is that player.
Rokolisoa helped New Zealand beat the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team in the Dubai 7s last week in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
Rokolisoa and his New Zealand 7s team are in pool C alongside Samoa, Australia and Canada.
Meanwhile, Fiji will take on France at 8.28pm Saturday in their first pool match, they will then take on Spain at 11.06pm Saturday before taking on Argentina at 4.50am Sunday in their final pool match. The cup quarter finals will kick off at 8.34pm Sunday, the semi finals will start at 12.56am Monday and the cup final will be at 5.23am Monday.
The Fijiana 7s side will play Japan at 7.22pm Saturday in their first pool match, they will then play Spain at 9.34pm Saturday before playing Australia at 1.54am Sunday in their last pool match. The Women’s cup quarter finals will start at 7pm Sunday, the semi finals will be at 12.12am Monday and the women’s cup final will kick off at 4.43am Monday. Stay with us for updates.
