Former Fiji Bati player Ratu Nanovo has been refused bail by a Local Paramatta Court after being charged with stabbing three people following a match in western Sydney on Sunday.
He is due to return to the same court today.
News.com.au reports Nanovo is charged with three counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The charge carries a maximum jail term of 25 years in prison.
A 19-year-old player and two spectators, aged 16 and 22, were injured during the fight and they remain admitted in the hospital.
19-year-old Nanovo allegedly got a knife out of a car before saying “come up here, I’ve got something for you” and stabbing the trio who are all related.
Nanovo was selected in a 2018 Australian Schoolboys squad to tour England and played in the Penrith Panthers under-20s Jersey Flegg team in 2019.
He was also selected alongside NRL players Maika Sivo, Korbin Sims, and Viliame Kikau to represent Fiji against Lebanon last year.
