A former EastEnders actor is lucky to be alive after he slipped down a Thailand waterfall while taking a selfie.

38-year-old Paul Nicholls who played character Joe Wicks in 1996, was exploring the Khun Si Falls on the island of Koh Samui when he fell down a waterfall and smashed his knee into a rockpool.

It is understood he was taking a selfie just before he slipped.

He was trapped in the rockpool for three days without food and was unable to move.

Emergency crews found the actor on Monday after a three‑day search of the wilderness.

He was suffering from hypothermia and a tropical infection picked up from his untreated wounds.

He had also broken his leg.

Nicholls told media he was unable to call anyone as his phone had stopped working when it fell into the water.
