The former Divisional Registrar West with the Ministry of Justice has been sentenced to 22 months imprisonment.
Iosefo Rabeka was charged by FICAC with two counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage.
He admitted to misappropriating $521.40 meant for the registration and issuance of Birth, Death and Marriage certificates between January and May in 2017.
Rabeka also admitted to misappropriating $2,201.80 which was, collected for court marriages between May 2017 and May 2018.
Magistrate, Nayani Kasturirathne says Rabeka purposely manipulated the existing system in place to obtain a gain and that was a direct violation of trust that the general public has on that government institution.
