Team Fiji Men’s 7s Coach Gareth Baber says the key fundamentals such as getting possession back from restarts and defence are some of the things the team is focused on in their training sessions leading up to the Olympics.
While speaking to fijivillage from Japan, Baber says they are focused on these areas because they want to make sure that when the pressure is on, the fundamental basis of their game is sound.
Baber further says he was pleased with the intensity the team had in the Oceania 7s but knows that is not a done deal.
Fiji has two matches on the opening day of the Olympics 7s competition.
They will face Japan next Monday at 12pm before taking on Canada at 8pm.
Fiji will then play Great Britain at 12.30pm on the next day.
The top two teams in each pool, plus the two third-placed teams with the highest points total will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals will kick off on the 28th of this month.
Team Fiji will be represented in six sports including athletics, judo, rugby sevens, sailing, swimming and table tennis.
