Foana Nemani sentenced to 26 months imprisonment

Former Deputy General Manager of the Fiji National Provident Fund Foana Nemani has been sentenced to 26 months imprisonment for a count each of extortion by a public officer and abuse of office, which is to be served concurrently.
Nemani was found guilty by High Court Judge Justice Janaka Bandara earlier this week.
Justice Bandara has issued a fresh bench warrant against Nemani as she is in New Zealand.
Nemani was reported to have gone to New Zealand for medical treatment since February 2011.
Her jail term is effective as soon as she sets foot in the country.
The Immigration Department has also been notified.
