The Fiji Water Flying Fijians have been focusing on their fitness recently and it has shown during the recent Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup competition where they were able to close off games in the second half.
While speaking about the team’s performance recently, flyhalf Caleb Muntz says as a team, over the past few years they have been known as a 40 to 60-minute team as they have not really been able to close out games.
Muntz says that in the last couple of years, since he joined the team, there has been a real focus on their fitness and ability to close games.
He says it has shown the fruits of that labour that they have been putting in over the last couple of years and in the PNC competition, they have actually been more of a second-half team than a first-half team.
He adds that is really what winning the competition comes down to.
Muntz says they backed their fitness, kept their opposition at bay and they knew that their fitness would come through in the second half which is when they can start opening teams up and scoring those awesome Fiji tries that they are known for.
The Flying Fijians returned to the country last night and will now turn their focus on to the November tests where they will take on Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
